Chas P. Smith is originally from Burlington, Vermont. He attended Elon University in North Carolina where he majored in Economics and Political Science. For three years he worked in Washington, D.C. for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and Senator Patrick Leahy. While working on Capitol Hill, he covered a variety of issues including immigration, firearms, energy, water resources, and international development in the water sector. He is currently enrolled in the Sustainable Entrepreneurship MBA Program at the University of Vermont. Additionally, he is the President of the Periclean Scholars Alumni Association for the Class of 2011. This program, based out of Elon University, does a variety of environmental and social based projects in Sri Lanka.
